~~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) ~~
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly
equipped for every good work.

I had a conversation with someone one day about the bible. This person believes in Jesus, but she doesn’t
read the bible. Her reasoning was that
it was written by man, therefore you can’t trust it. I assured her that though it was written by
people every word is inspired by God. She wasn't convinced.
Coincidence? I Think Not!
I know that the Bible is from God because His Word tells us so. But I’ve had this confirmed to me this week. The other day I wrote about being in a dry
spell and wondered if it was Writer’sBlock or Spiritual Block? I feel
that my problem is the latter which is the result of me not spending enough
time in the Word. This was confirmed to
me when a friend forwarded a devotional to me that said the same thing. A devotional, called It Just Comes,
which I didn’t even subscribe to, (and written by an author that is from the
same city as I am) showed up in my email confirming my message right after I
published my own post.
If you’re a long time subscriber of one of my blogs you’ll remember that I’ve talked before about how the words just flow from me. When I’m done I have a great message that has meaning, symbolism, and it flows well with good format. Often, these messages come when I haven’t even been thinking about the subject at hand. Where does all this come from if not from God?
The same was true for my book, Cocoa with Jesus. I wrote about my life and educated the readers about the issues at hand without a second thought. There was so many memories that I had forgotten or blocked out of my mind and yet they all ended up in words on my computer screen in front of me. I wrote and included chapters that I didn’t even plan on writing. Other chapters that I wanted to include got cut from the final draft.

I know my work comes from God because there’s no other explanation for
how it just comes to me. I know it comes
from God because I can feel Him using and talking to me.
Sometimes, when I don’t know what to write about, God will say to me “Just start writing.”
I’ve even said to Him “Write what? I have no words in my mind to type.”
Again, He’ll say to me “just start writing.” So I do.
Suddenly I’m typing words that were certainly not in my mind at that moment. God uses me to send a message to others. I’m honored, happy, excited, and very blessed that He chose me to be the vessel to which these particular messages get to those who need to hear or read them.
Today’s devotional as I write it right now is a case in point. I woke up feeling groggy after a long night of weird dreams. Yet before I could even get dressed or eat breakfast, I found myself sitting at my laptop typing out these words. Where else could it come from but from God?

If God can use me, and others, to write messages then I know He used
the authors of the bible to write the scriptures. The Bible comes from God. It is HIS word, not the words of the authors
that fill its pages. Trust it, believe
it, fill your heart and mind with it.
Your life will be changed forever.
Let’s Pray
~~ Dear God ~~ You are so gracious, merciful, and loving. So often I don’t take the time to listen to
You or read Your Word as often as I should.
Thank you for your patience with me.
Please help me to engross myself in Your Word daily, so that I can be
inspired to spread the gospel. In Jesus name, AMEN.
Now It’s Your Turn

Oh Sister how well do I know that feeling. I'm experiencing it now as I work on the story for camp nano. No matter how much I try to spin it one way God spins it the way he wants, and I am writing things I didn't think I would or could. I can't wait to see where the story leads.

DeleteHi, SPARKYCARLEY,
ReplyDeleteJust saw your post to the team and read your blog post.
I had a similar question several years ago about thoughts that just seemed to come to me. How was I to know whether those thoughts were realistic and based on God's truth or whether they were "whispers in my ear" from Satan? My therapist at the time, a devoted Christ-follower, told me there were two criteria to use to discern whether my thoughts were God-inspired or evil-inspired. (1) Were my thoughts in line with Scripture? (2) When I prayed about them and posed the question to God, what "answer" did I sense?
Scripture is, as humans, our only concrete way to discern God's will and His desires for us. Norman Geisler has written a book explaining the Divine Inspiration of Scripture. His book is called "From God to Us: How We Got Our Bible" (http://www.amazon.com/From-God-To-Us-Bible/dp/0802428789/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1373580669&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=geiser+bible). The book is relatively dense reading but gives a pretty clear description of how our Bible came to be and how we can know that it is the Word of God.
As far as "sensing" God's answers to my questions, inevitably my prayers in that vein yield distinct feelings in one direction or the other. And, when I sense that my thoughts are not in line with God's path for me, I then pray that He will guide me back to His path and His truth.
I don't know, from your post, if you were asking the question you listed or whether your blog was answering it but, whether posed literally or rhetorically, your question is an excellent one. Thanks for the reminder about spending time in His word!

DeleteThank you for starting this thread, I enjoy your link too.
ReplyDeleteAs I was praying about a difficult circumstance one time and was reading from God's word a particular passage. I said, "How do I know for sure......." His quick answer to my spirit was, "MY Word is my Word". I have seen God's work over and over in my life and the life of others. God's word is true and he had inspired chosen men to record it for us. It is the living word for all ages of time.
Thank you very much. I hope you were blessed by it. HUG
DeleteIt will always line up with God's word, and He will often confirm it in the natural, as well as the spirit. For me,God often plants a little seed thought and then I will recognize the "INSPIRATION" as either answered prayer or the outgrowth of that little seed planted in the past.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading, and I hope you were blessed by it. Many blessings to you. HUGS
DeleteI know exactly what you mean because when God talks to me, I can feel it in my heart!!! It's almost a physical feeling!!! God bless you!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's it exactly! Thanks for reading and for the great feedback. Many blessings to you. HUG
DeleteThis is my measuring sticks for whether something is inspiration from God or not.
ReplyDelete2 Nephi 32:3, "Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do."
Moroni 7:12-13, "Wherefore, all things which are good cometh of God; and that which is evil cometh of the devil; for the devil is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually, and inviteth and enticeth to sin, and to do that which is evil continually. But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.
The scriptures are our true measuring stick.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
ReplyDeleteI agree. Studying the Bible is what we need to help us on our daily walk with God and we can find guidance and inspiration from the Bible. God speaks to us through the Bible, but He also has His own ways of speaking to us in other ways as well. For me, it can be through a dream, or a feeling in my stomach and a bad sense of someone or something. I follow those insights that I believe God gives me. There have been times I didn't listen and had to face the consequences. Listening to Christian music also inspires me and keeps my mind on God. So yeah. Read the Bible, study it, pray, and open yourself up to God that you may hear Him in all the ways he speaks to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing. I can relate to the ways that God speaks to you. Thank you for reading my blog, and for the feedback. I very much appreciate it. Many blessings to you. HUGS
DeleteI believe we know by what is written in the Bible. It is God speaking to us of His plans and His will. It also tells of His character and nature. He will never contradict His Word. So anything that does not line up with Scripture, I don't believe is from God.
DeleteYou are so right. If it contradicts His Word, it is not from Him. That's one reason why it's so important that we study the bible, so we can recognize contradictions when they happen. Many blessings to you. HUG
DeleteYou're welcome! Yes its important to know what the Word of God says. It keeps us safe.
